I heard the news when my son, Alek, sent me a text. Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter crash.

To say I was stunned doesn’t come close to my feelings.

I frantically flipped through television stations hoping to hear it was wrong, that someone had misreported or jumped on the story too soon wanting to be first rather than right.
