Robert Lee meet Robert E. Lee.

The former is a sports announcer, who works part time for ESPN.

The latter is a general who led the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the Civil War.

Robert Lee was pulled by ESPN from calling the University of Virginia football game because of the recent White Nationalists rally in Charlottesville, Va., that resulted in the death of a woman protesting against the White Nationalists.

The removal of a statute honoring Robert E. Lee was one of the reasons for the White Nationalist rally.

ESPN, in statement, said in agreement with Robert Lee, he was removed from the broadcast for his own safety and to avoid an incident.

The national media, and those who spread their opinions on social media, jumped all over ESPN.
