Maybe I’m being too sensitive, or maybe I just don’t get the joke, but newspapers seem to the butt of a lot of jokes lately.
From sitcoms to late night talk shows, the punchline seems to be newspapers are obsolete and something your parents or grandparents read.
I cry foul.
Yes, I understand the newspaper is no longer the main source of news.
Heck, even for regular readers is it hardly the main news source.
Once upon a time, people got up in the morning and grabbed the newspaper off the stoop or got home at night, picked up the paper and read about what was going on in their community.
They learned what was going around the world from Roger Mudd, Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, John Chancellor, Harry Reasoner or Chet Huntley.
