First class act
There were “No Loose Ends” for St. Francis. The One-Act play team earned first Dec. 5 in Class D1 State One Act competition.
The play, written by R. C. Edwards, is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” set during the prohibition era in a speakeasy frequented by flappers and regular Joes, and run by the Mafia.
When Jack (Kelly Zach) finds out his widowed sister-in-law Pearl (Ashley Ternus) has agreed to marry the notorious Tony (Sam McPhillips), he is angry. His brother, Big John, was a good man and he does not understand how Pearl could possibly agree to marry Tony so soon after Johnny’s death. He and his friend Harry (Jadyn Keller) know something bad is happening, and they try to figure it out. Jack has a love interest of his own, Amelia, often called Mellie, (Anna Brockhaus) and what he really wants is to take her out of the mobster life, marry her, and live honestly.
