Parishes to remain with fewer priests

Area parishes will remain open, but fewer priests will be providing services.

Deacon Tim McNeil, chancellor of the Omaha Archdiocese, said nothing is finalized, but consolidation is essential.

“We’re taking a look at reorganization of parishes. What’s being talked about, and this is really early, is the parishes in Humphrey, Lindsay, Leigh and Tarnov would have two priests who would be responsible for those parishes. So, no (parish) would be closing, no (parish) would be merging.

“So, what it might mean is parish priests would live together, like and spoke-type model. Humphrey would be the center of everything, there would be sharing of resources, cutting down on meetings, you don’t necessarily have to have a parish council for all these parishes,” he said.
