St. Francis junior Andrew Kosch, right, shot a 78 and finished as runner up in the Patriot Invite. Freshmen Jacob Keller, left, carded an 86 and earned the 14th place medal. The team shot a 355 which placed them 5th in the 15 team tournament.

Daniel D. Engel

Daniel D. Engel of Humphrey passed away at his home in Humphrey, Neb. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. A Vigil was at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 , at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. The Knights of Columbus Rosary was 3 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. Visitation was at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Neb., from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday. Interment is St. Francis Cemetery in Humphrey, with Military Honors by American Legion Foltz-Zuerlein Post 80 A luncheon followed at the Humphrey Community Center Daniel D. Engel was born Jan. 2, 1970, in Norfolk, Neb., to James and Norma Jean (Stenger) Engel. He grew up in Humphrey and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1988. Dan entered the Army National Guard in 1988 and served for 14 years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha with a degree in Finance and Banking. Dan was united in marriage to Renee Krings on Feb. 4, 1995, at St. Francis Church in Humphrey. Dan worked at the Farmers State Bank in Humphrey for 13 years and took a Vice-President position at the Bank of Lindsay where he was currently employed. Dan loved coaching. He coached multiple grade school sports and was the head junior high football coach at St. Francis for the past 10 years. He was also the assistant coach of the girls varsity basketball team. Dan was a member of St. Francis Church in Humphrey where he served in various capacities of the church and school. He was also a member of the Humphrey American Legion Post #80. Dan was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with his dad and brothers. He was a warm gentle man devoted to faith and family and always had a smile on his face. He is survived by: Wife, Renee Engel of Humphrey Son, Austin Engel Son, Colton Engel Daughter, Sydney Engel Son, Spencer Engel Parents, Jim and Jeanie Engel of Humphrey Sister, Julie (Alan) Huettner of Humphrey Brother, Ken (Lori) Engel of Shanghai, China Brother, David (Deb) Engel of Omaha He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Fritz and Gretchen Engel and Lee and Alice Stenger. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.
