Percy J. Gilsdorf

Mass of Christian Burial for Percy J. Gilsdorf, 92, Madison, will 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison. Reverend Patrick McLaughlin will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Humphrey, Neb. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison. Resseguie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Countryside Home in Madison. Percy John was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Platte County near Cornlea, Neb., to his parents Joseph and Rose (Brandl) Gilsdorf. He grew up and attended schools in the Cornlea area. Percy married Mary Jo Hastreiter on Aug. 10, 1948, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Humphrey. The couple raised their family on the family farm near Madison. In the early 1990s, Percy and Mary Jo moved to Madison, Neb., but Percy continued to work on the family farm as much as possible. If something needed to be completed or fixed, he took care of it. Percy was a member of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church and very active in the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his children Galen (Pat) Gilsdorf of Humphrey, Cathie (Gary) Praeunerof Battle Creek, and Bernadette (Dale) Semerad of Dodge, grandchildren Christie, Jason, Tammy, James, Angela, Brenda, and Paul, nine great grandchildren, brother Gary (Delores) Gilsdorf of Las Vegas, sister Jeanette Warth of Tulia, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Percy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, siblings Marvin, Sr., Ervin, Harvey, Mark, Cleo Wiese and Marsha Gilsdorf and four great grandchildren. Memorials will be directed by the family or for Masses.
