Hogancamp earns gold, silver in Special Olympic equestrian contest
Katie Hogancamp, a fifthgrader at Humphrey Public School, competed at the Special Olympics Equestrian Competition Sept. 8 in Central City.
Hogancamp was entered as a competitor from the S.M.I.L.E. organization of Battle Creek that is run by Patty Prauner.
Hogancamp competed in two events: stock seat and trail riding.
In the stock seat competition, the riders had to guide their horses around the arena and respond when given directions from an announcer and a judge. These directions included being able to walk their horses, turn their horses around, back their horses up, and stop their horses at a given point. Hogancamp received a silver medal in this event.
