Platte Center is updating its Wellhead Protection Plan.
The Lower Platte North Natural Resources District and Platte County officials held an open house in Platte Center in May to give the public a chance to hear about the plan and give their thoughts.
The pubic hearing is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 12, at the Platte Center Village Hall, 315 Fourth St. Jake Maslonka, Water Quality Program coordinator, said “These plans are voluntary and the Village moved the project ahead to obtain a better understanding of the risk of the water supply to nitrate contamination, which could be a concern in the future. Right now, their wells have very low nitrate concentrations and do look to be in good shape.”
