At 10:20 every night I was glued to the television as the sports anchor took over the local news.
Growing up, the newspaper, television and radio were my sources for sports, and I was at the mercy of their schedules.
I ignored the nightly news and weather, but the sports anchor told me all I needed to know. I got all the scores of the day — make that partial scores. I couldn’t wait to hear the baseball scores, but even games that started at 7 that night were rarely past the 5th inning, according to the anchor, and maybe I saw a couple of highlights if time allowed.
