A water main broke in two places on Main Street last week.
Scott Hanis, City of Humphrey maintenance supervisors, said he received a call around 3 p.m. Aug. 25 from John Keller, owner of Main Street Market, about water coming out of a manhole in front of the Market.
“John advised it was not coming out very fast (maybe 30 gallons per minute). Water had to be shut off on Main Street from Third Street to Fifth Street and one block south of Main Street on Fifth Street,’ Hanis said. “Obrist Construction was called and someone came down to look at it. The repairs could not be made until Tuesday (Aug. 26) due to Diggers Hotline response. Work began Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. It was discovered that an 8-inch water main in front of Main Street Market had a small crack in it. A section was cut out and a new piece put in. Water was turned on early afternoon. As they were backfilling that hole there was another break in the same line about 8-feet to the east causing a lot of water to be released. It was discovered that a large hole had developed in the main.
