BIue Mass to honor first responders on Feast of Archangels

St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey will host a Blue Mass at 8:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, honoring the men and women who serve as first responders in area communities.

The tradition of a Blue Mass dates back nearly a century and is a way to recognize police officers, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency personnel for their service and sacrifice. The Mass coincides with the Feast of the Archangels, a day that highlights St. Michael the Archangel, known as the patron saint of first responders for his role as a defender and protector in times of danger.

All first responder organizations in the surrounding area have been sent an invitation to the Mass and breakfast. This includes EMTs and firefighters in Humphrey, Lindsay, Newman Grove, Platte Center, Madison, Creston, Leigh and Clarkson as well as the Platte County, Madison County, Boone County, and Colfax County Sheriff’s Departments.
