Rally sends Archangels past St. Mary's into championship game
Gavin Geilenkirchen drives to the basket during the Archangels semi-final win over St. Mary’s Friday at the Devaney Sports Center.

The game was tighter than they would have liked it, but senior Brenden Johannes knocked down a pair of free throws with 1.7 seconds left to ice the game and send the Archangels Defenders to the Class D-2 championship game.

The Defenders rallied from an eight-point third quarter deficit to defeat O’Neill St. Mary’s 57-52 Friday morning in the semifinal game at the Devaney Sports Center.

Head coach Eric Kessler said it helps to have a veteran team when games get tight.
