Billing equipment error causes higher water bills

City will work with customers

The City of Humphrey’s water billing equipment has caused some customers to be “significantly higher than expected.”

In a letter to customers, the city said, “We want to take a moment to explain why these bills are higher and, most importantly, let you know that the City of Humphrey is willing to work with you. Earlier this year, our water billing machine experienced a major failure in April. Because of this, water usage for Route 2 (north side of Main Street) and the new additions could not be billed using actual meter readings. Instead, those bills were estimated for the May 1 and July 1 billing cycles. As a result, the estimated billing covered approximately April through August. Now that our system is functioning properly, we are able to read the actual water usage.
