HPS board approves budget for 2026-27

The Humphrey Public School Board of Education approved the 2026-27 budget and tax request resolution following two public hearings Sept. 14.

Board members had agreed during a special meeting Aug. 31 to approve a budget with the least impact on taxpayers. The board voted to not use the added taxing authority, which is a provision that allows school districts to increase property tax requests beyond the standard limit.

Nebraska places strict caps on how much revenue school districts can raise from local property taxes year-over-year for their general and special building funds. The additional allowance is a certified property tax request using calculations provided by the state to compute an additional property tax authority amount.
