Fellow Platte County Residents, If you followed the recent September news on county tax budget approvals, you may be concerned about your property taxes going forward. I believe future tax increases remain a real concern for Columbus City and Platte County property owners.
On the upcoming Nov. 3 ballot, an amendment will allow Columbus and county residents to vote on whether Platte County should take over township road maintenance. Currently, 15 individual townships manage maintenance in their own neighborhoods, efficiently and frugally.
The Platte County Supervisors estimate they will need to hire six to eight additional fulltime employees with benefits to handle this shift, increasing the county’s responsibility from 200-plus miles of roads to over 800 miles. Passing this amendment will significantly increase county taxes for property owners in the City of Columbus and throughout Platte County.
