Shae Wemhoff’s Journey Through Breast Cancer
Depending on your generation, the word “cancer” can leave multiple impressions. In past generations, it was viewed as a death sentence. In more recent years, however, and with the advancement of scientific/medical research by leading universities and organizations, the word “cancer” has evolved. Although there is definitely fear and worry about mortality, there are also words such as strength, hope, determination, survival intermingled with it.
In the next four weeks, we will center a series of articles on Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We plan to examine the lives of breast cancer survivors, bring awareness to what the “pink ribbons” represents, enlighten many who don’t realize that men can and do get breast cancer, and take a look at how local medical personnel are working to help patients navigate the sometimes challenging and scary maze of a breast cancer diagnosis.
