Two Bulldogs qualify for state at district cross country

It was cold and wet Thursday for the Class D-2 District cross country meet, but that didn’t stop the top Humphrey-Lindsay runners from posting their best marks of the season. In the girls’ race, Camilla Korus punched her ticket to the state meet in Kearney by running a 20:43.5 and placing 12th. Out of the gate, Camilla put herself firmly in the top 14 runners, with a sizable gap between herself and the 15th and 16th runners. From about the 1st mile marker on, there was no doubt that she would be placing high enough to get to Kearney. Erin Kruid also ran for the girls and she posted her career personal best time of 23:50.1.

After experiencing heartbreak at last year’s district meet, Klayton Brandl left no doubt that he would also be competing in the state meet this year. He had a fast start, putting himself in the top six after the first 1,000 meters. He was able to tuck in and run with a group of three and hold his position well enough to keep plenty of distance between himself and 16th place. He finished the race in 10th place, posting his career best time of 17:58.5. The other boys posted strong times as well. Jarrett Fittje ran a 20:38.2 placing 42nd. Right behind him was Drew Weeder running a 20:44.2 and placing 43rd. Xander Gronenthal ran a 21:49.7 and placed 54th. The boys team score of 93 points was good enough for 9th place out of 15 teams.
