Archangels Catholic High School’s Defenders are sending three runners to the Class D state cross country meet after a strong showing at Class D-2 District meet Thursday.
The meet took place at Oakland Golf Course, where the course was flat but dotted with puddles after recent rain. Cloudy skies and temperatures of 55 degrees made for what coach Denise Brockhaus described as perfect running weather. With 21 schools competing, competition was tough.
In the varsity girls’ 5,000-meter race, 54 runners competed. Brisa Reigle finished sixth in 20:29, and Claire Wegener placed seventh in 20:30. Both earned medals and qualified for state. The top 15 finishers in each race advance to the state meet.
