Backemeyer will stand up for farmers
With skyrocketing fertilizer and diesel prices, foreign beef imports and catastrophic tariffs and trade wars, U.S. agriculture is in a full-blown crisis, thanks to Rep. Mike Flood and the Trump administration. When agriculture is in trouble, Nebraskans know the entire state will feel the economic aftershocks for years. And most families already are struggling to keep up with rising inflation and high mortgage rates. Yet Flood continues to wholeheartedly support the Trump administration’s chaotic policies, voting several times to support the Iran war and the tariffs. That’s why it is so important for Nebraskans to elect Chris Backemeyer, who wants to end the Iran war and tariffs before more damage can be done. A fifth-generation Nebraskan whose family homesteaded in Cass County, Backemeyer spent 20 years in economic policy and national security at the State Department and National Security Council. He negotiated high-stakes agreements with foreign governments — experience Nebraskans need when ag export markets are at stake. The Nebraska Farmers Union political action committee endorsed him because he is “increasingly well prepared to do a good job of representing our interests in a more effective and more aggressive manner than is currently happening,” said spokesman John Hansen.
Farmers need someone to stand up for agriculture and rural interests now. Unlike Flood, Chris Backemeyer is uniquely qualified and very willing to do so. The clock is ticking. Nebraskans can’t afford to stay on the disastrous path that Mike Flood supports. Michelle Carr Hassler Lincoln
