I wonder if the creators of social media ever envisioned what it has become.

Probably not.

Facebook’s original intent was connect people by sharing information and to be able to pick with whom we shared the information.

That’s basically what Mark Zuckerberg has said about why he created it.

Twitter was created to allow friends to communicate about what they were up to or their thoughts and feelings using 140 characters or fewer.

I don’t believe that anyone who has created ways to communicate via social media could have imagined how rich they would become, and how divisive their inventions now are.

We have become a nation of cowards thanks to social media.

Discussions, conversations and even arguments that once had to be done in person or by talking to someone on the phone, are now done on a phone or computer or tablet or other electronic device without ever having to see the person or hear their voice.
