81/91 to become RCUT

Interchange part of plan at some point; residents frustrated

Highway 81/91 intersection will have an RCUT installed in an attempt to make it safer, but frustrated local residents don’t feel that’s the best solution.

Eighty-seven residents attended an open house Nov. 29 sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) at the Humphrey Community Center. Representatives from the NDOT and HDR, of Omaha, presented the findings of their study of the intersection and answered questions.

As the two-hour meeting progressed, the mood of the crowd changed from quiet and calm to frustrated and angry, accusing the NDOT of ignoring their input and having their mind made up before the meeting started.
