The PRE students of St. Francis

The PRE students of St. Francis recently gave up their regular classroom setting on Wednesday nights to help make the world a better place. On two Wednesday evenings in February groups of PRE students traveled to Mercy Meals of Nebraska in Norfolk to package meals for distribution overseas to those in need. The groups packaged up enough bags of food to supply 6,480 meals. The night began with a short film explaining the purpose of Mercy Meals. Mercy Meals of Nebraska is a non-profit organization that allows volunteers to package nourishing food that will be delivered by the Orphan Grain Train to children in need throughout the world. Orphanages, refugee camps, feeding centers, disaster relief centers and local food pantries have been recent recipients of their food. Students formed “bucket brigades” for filling bags with soy flakes, rice, chicken flavor, and dried vegetables. Each bag weighing about 400 grams contains enough food to provide a meal for six people.
