Grandparents Day is officially observed on the first Sunday after Labor Day, which was Sept. 12 this year. As I have assigned my journalists are writing about their own grandparents and we recently celebrated Grandparents Day, I became curious about the day itself.

Kaitlin Collins, of Portland, Oregon, and Mark Kallweit, formerly of Humphrey, Neb., were united in marriage. The afternoon ceremony took place on Aug. 28, 2022, at Coopers Hall in downtown Portland. Friend of the couple, Timothy Vleisides officiated the ceremony.

Sept. 22 is National Centenarian’s Day — only a very select group of folks get to celebrate this particular day, having marked 100 birthdays or more. It’s a good bet that most of those celebrating National Centenarian’s Day were also reveling in Grandparents Day just 10 days earlier, Sept. 12.
