Courtesy photo Miss Baumgart's second-grade class at Humphrey St. Francis recently organized and participated in a spell-a-thon to raise funds for someone they pray for every school day. Bridget McPhillips, the daughter-in-law of sixth-grade teacher Maureen McPhillips, has been going through cancer treatments since August. For the past two months, the second-grade students have been studying difficult spelling words. The students sought out sponsors who committed funds for each word spelled correctly on the big test day. The class studied well as they raised over 4,700 dollars for Zach and Bridget McPhillips' family before Christmas time. They were able to present a check to Mrs. Maureen McPhillips to give to her son and his wife. Miss Baumgart and her students want to thank all who sponsored a student in any way.
