Maurice “Butch” I. Wieser, 87, died April 1, 2017, at his home in Humphrey, Neb. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Neb., and burial in St. Francis Cemetery with Father Patrick A. McLaughlin officiating. Visitations were at St. Francis Church Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture service and continued Wednesday at 9 a.m. Maurice was born Nov. 21, 1029, at Humphrey, the son of John and Elizabeth (Ruhkamp) Wieser and attended St. Mary’s School in rural Humphrey. On June 16, 1954, Maurice and Mary Catherine “Kitty” Eisenmenger were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. Following their wedding they moved to Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 10, 1951- Dec. 1, 1955, Maurice took a job with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., where he repaired bombers. In March 1957, Maurice and Mary Catherine moved back to the family farm where they raised their 10 children until they retired and moved to Humphrey. Maurice had a great passion for baseball. In 1950, at the age of 18, he pitched a no-hitter for the Humphrey Baseball Team at the Nebraska State Semi-Pro Baseball Championship game. He also played baseball while he was enlisted in the Air Force and continued to play on the St. Mary’s and Humphrey baseball teams when they moved back to Humphrey. Eventually, he started coaching one of the Humphrey teams. Maurice also loved the game of golf, and he especially loved playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of the Foltz- Zuerlein American legion Post of Humphrey and Catholic Order of Foresters Fraternal Order. Surviving are his wife Mary Catherine “Kitty”; children and spouses, Dan Wieser, of Humphrey; Steve (Karen) Wieser, of Humphrey; Sue (Bob) Wegener, of Lindsay; Jerry (Pam) Wieser, of Norfolk; Tom (Sandy) Wieser, of Lincoln; Cindy (Ray) Lindhorst, of Lindsay; Dean (Joyce) Wieser, of Atlantic, Iowa; Joe (Sheri) Wieser, of Columbus; Mary (Bob) Eisenmann, of Madison; Jenny (Dave) Gall, of Lincoln; 35 Grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren. Preceding in death are his parents John and Elizabeth and siblings Lambert, Richard, Walburga, George, Fred, twins Art and Edna, Ralph, Agnes, twins Josephine and Philomae, Viola and Juliane. Honorary bearers are Butch’s grandchildren. Casket bearers are Mitchell Wieser, Scott Wegener, Kevin Wieser, Kyle Wieser, Dustin Lindhorst, Adam Wieser, Travis Wieser, Jason Eisenmann and Malcom Gall.
