Milton Baumgart

Milton Baumgart, age 96, of Columbus, Neb., died Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2017, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church at 1565 18th Ave., Columbus. Vigil is 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. at the funeral Home Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by American Legion Hartman Post #84 Honor Guard Milt was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Humphrey, Neb., to Fred and Mary Ellen (Boyer) Baumgart. He graduated from Humphrey High in 1938. Milt served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942-1945 in the Pacific Theatre. He was highly decorated with many battle field commendations. Upon his discharge fromthe Air Corp, he married Celia Ann VanDyke on April 24, 1947. Milt served as a deputy sheriff for 2 years before starting a long career as a Metropolitan Life Insurance Agent. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, V.F.W. #3704 and American Legion Hartman Post #84 where he served on the honor guard for 9 years. He was an avid pool player, golfer and enjoyed baseball. Milt is survived by: Wife of 70 years: Celia Ann Baumgart of Columbus Daughter: Carole (Joe) Maltacea of Woburn, MA Son: Dan (Bonnie) Baumgart of Littleton, CO Son: Brad (Patti) Baumgart of Columbus 6 grandchildren 6 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother in infancy and 2 brother: Clifford and Eugene. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
