Sunday drivers

It was a day for women and their tractors Sunday.

An all-female tractor drive, organized by Gary Korth, made its way from St. Bernard to the park in Lindsay.

The Sunday drive culminated in a burger bash at the park as drivers shared a few stories about the drive.

Korth said he wanted to do something for women in the area, and thought the drive was a good idea.

“My wife was out helping me one day racking hay with a tractor, and I thought this would be fun for women,” he said.

Korth said he picked the route because he didn’t want the first drive to be a long one in case the drivers got bored and didn’t want to do it again.

He hopes the drive can become an annual event.

“This was a starting point, and I’m open to suggestions. I’ll make it better. If they want it longer we can do that. It’s pretty hard to make it shorter,” Korth said.

Ten women climbed into their tractors for the drive, and Korth said there were others who wanted to participate, but couldn’t make it and hope they get the chance to drive next year.

Two of the drivers who made the trek this year, Sheri Jarecki and Jenny Herchenbach, were glad to be part of it.

“It’s something fun to do with other people. This is my first time doing a tractor drive,” Jarecki said.

“It was really good,” Herchenbach said. “It’s a little challenging keeping everybody together and going the right speed, but it was a lot of fun.”
