St. Francis junior Andrew Kosch, right, shot a 78 and finished as runner up in the Patriot Invite. Freshmen Jacob Keller, left, carded an 86 and earned the 14th place medal. The team shot a 355 which placed them 5th in the 15 team tournament.

Kennedy Howard goes up for a spike for St. Francis. The Lady Flyers earned a pair of wins Sept. 5 over Burwell and St. Edward.

Lady Flyers win pair

The 2-1 St. Francis volleyball team improved to 4-1 on the year after defeating Burwell and St. Edward Sept. 5.

The Lady Flyers won the triangular defeating both teams in only two sets.

Against the Burwell Longhorns, the Lady Flyers won the first set 25-17 and 25-20 in the second.

The Lady Flyers then faced off against the St. Edward Beavers, winning the sets 25-7 and 25-9.

Senior Captain Bridget McPhillips said, “I think we are playing very good to start off the season, but there is always room for improvement.”

With a 4-1 record, the Lady Flyers are off to their best start in several seasons. They look to improve their record in Fremont Sept. 9 at the Cedar Bluffs Tournament.
