Humphrey board approves 2017-18 budget
The 2017-18 Humphrey Public School budget was approved Aug. 11 by the board of education.
The budget and budget summary and the final tax request were approved following open public hearings. No one from the public attended either hearing.
The budget includes a small increase in the levy.
The total levy, which includes the general fund, bonds and special building fund, is .3675, or 36 cents per $1,000 valuation. The total levy last year was .3671.
The property tax request is $3,443,295. Last year it was $3,389,705, an increase of $53,590 or 1.58 percent.
The increase is the result of the hiring of a special education/elementary teacher and increasing the hours for maintenance workers from 30 hours a week to 40 hours a week.
Carol Korth was hired to work with special education students and elementary students, adding $29,000 to the special education budget.
The custodial staff had worked 30-hour weeks, but it is hard to find employees to work less than 40 hours a week. The hourly wage will remain $11.25 an hour.
The general fund tax request is $2,524,772, with a tax rate of .0268527 or 27 cents per $1,000 valuation. Last year, the general fund tax request was $2,477,669 with a tax rate of 0.267421.
The K-12 bond fund drops to $58,065 with a tax rate of 0.006176. Last year the property tax request was $68,368 with a tax rate of 0.007379.
The K-8 bond fund is $283,814 with a tax rate of 0.031480. Last year’s property tax request was $271,490 and a tax rate of 0.028875.
The 9-12 bond fun is $120,661 with a tax rate of 0.012833. Last year’s figures were $126,138 and 0.013467. This should be 126,138.29 for 2017-18 and 120,661.10 for 2016-17.
The special building fund is $450,505 with a tax rate of 0.048022. Last year the fund was $451,515 with a tax rate of 0.047914.
The total system valuation is $940,230,536, an increase of $13,725,468 or 1.48 percent.
The assessed valuations are as follows: System: $940,230 million. Increased 1.48 percent. Platte County Valuation: $922,517,768, which is up $13,732,287 or 1.51 percent. Madison County Valuation: $17,712,768, which is down $6,819 or .038 percent decrease.
