Bulldogs runners-up at state tourney
he Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family Lady Bulldogs were ranked third heading into the state volleyball tournament Thursday, Nov. 8.
In the first round, H-LHF drew the Diller-Odell Griffins. The Griffins drew first blood, going up early in the first set, and they never looked back. Diller-Odell won 25-19. The Lady Bulldogs switched sides and switched gears in the second set. Though the Griffins stayed within striking distance, H-LHF had the edge and won the second set 28-25. Riding the momentum of the precious set, the Bulldogs charged their way to the win in the third set, 25-21.
The Lady Griffins showed just why they were in the state tournament, clawing their way back in the fourth set. The HLHF squad made a few unforced errors that allowed Diller-Odell to get the upper hand. Although the Bulldogs cleaned up their game, the Lady Griffins has the edge and won 25-23 to force a fifth set. In the fifth and final set, the teams traded points back and forth for the first half of the set, but the Bulldogs took charge and took care of business, winning 15-11, which earned them a spot in the semi-final match against the three-time defending state champion Johnson-Brock Eagles.
