Sister Mary Viola Miksch

Sister Mary Viola Miksch died on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Immanuel Fontenelle in Omaha.

A Mass for Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel at the Servants of Mary Convent with her brother, The Rev. Joseph Miksch, as celebrant. She was buried in the Servants of Mary Cemetery.

Sister Viola was born on June 30, 1931 on the family farm a few miles northwest of Platte Center, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Purchal) Miksch. She was baptized Barbara Theresa on July 2, 1931 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from the 8th grade in 1945. She attended District 24 High School in Platte Center and graduated in 1949.

She entered the Servants of Mary Convent on Aug. 28, 1951. On June 10, 1952 she received the name Mary Viola of the Sacred Heart. This had been the name of her Franciscan aunt, who died when Barbara was 9 years old. Her final professional was made on August 15, 1958.
