Bulldogs jump on top of H-N early in opening round win

It didn’t take long for Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family to take control in its first-ever boys basketball state tournament game.

The second-seeded Bulldogs took a 13-point lead before the end of the first quarter and never let up in downing seventh-seeded Hartington-Newcastle 56-36 in the Class D1 quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Lincoln East High School.

“It's huge,” H-LHF coach Joe Hesse said. “It's weird for us never having been down here because our kids don't act that way. … This group is just special. They're good players, but they're on a mission right now.”
