Head coach Joe Hesse hugs Jacob Brandl after the Bulldogs won the state title.
Just like Dad taught him
Like father, like son.
Saturday, Joe Hesse did something his late father, Rick, did four times, win a state basketball championship.
Joe, head coach of the Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family team, guided the Bulldogs to a 61-46 win over Fremont Bergan to claim the Class D1 title.
Rick Hesse coached Clearwater to four straight state titles from 1984-87, winning 440 games with 12 state tournament appearances while coaching at Clearwater and Valentine. He also is a member of the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame.
