Just like Dad taught him

Joe Hesse follows in father’s footsteps

Like father, like son.

Saturday, Joe Hesse did something his late father, Rick, did four times, win a state basketball championship.

Joe, head coach of the Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family team, guided the Bulldogs to a 61-46 win over Fremont Bergan to claim the Class D1 title.

Rick Hesse coached Clearwater to four straight state titles from 1984-87, winning 440 games with 12 state tournament appearances while coaching at Clearwater and Valentine. He also is a member of the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame.
