Oh, to be young.

Not that I would change places with anyone, but I was talking to a recent high school graduate who got me thinking about life, and where it takes us.

In a couple weeks this girl is heading to St. John’s University Queens Campus in Queens, N.Y., to study journalism and environmental issues. From Omaha to Queens.

When I was her age I was nervous about moving to Wayne, Neb., to go to Wayne State College. I had no idea what I was doing. There were no brothers or sisters or peers to tell me what to expect, I was just winging it, but I wasn’t moving clear across the country. I was a few hours from home, not a several-hour drive or plane ride.
