“I’m excited. Personally, I was really nervous for this. There’s so many untested guys, you don’t know what they’re capable of, what their floor is, what their ceiling is, but they played really well,” head coach Joe Hesse said.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the second quarter, outscoring the Patriots 25-1.

Despite missing two weeks because of COVID-19 quarantine, junior Ethan Keller scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had three steals.

“He’s a grown man,” Hesse said. “ He played really well.”

The Bulldogs raced out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter, with Keller scoring eight, and the they put it away before halftime.

Jason Sjuts took over, scoring seven early in the period, and Keller closed out the half with six points.

The Patriots did not score until Kyle Kasik hit one of two free throws with 4:05 left in the second.

The only suspense in the second half was how many points the H-LHF boys would put up. They outscored Clarkson-Leigh 21-12 in the second half as Hesse emptied his bench.

Sjuts finished with 14 points, and Sage Frauendorfer added 11.

Jacob Sjuts controlled the boards, leading the game with 14 rebounds, 13 on the defensive end to limit the Patriots scoring chances. He also handed out a team-high five assists.

The Bulldogs made 26 of 62 field goals.

Eli Hays led Clarkson-Leigh with eight points. As a team the Patriots made just 9 of 57 field goal attempts, 2 of 17 three-point tries and just 2 of 9 from the free throw line.

Hesse praised Cooper Beller’s toughness, and said the team depth will improve as Kyle Preister, who missed time because of quarantining for the coronavirus, gets into the rotation.
