Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, Neb. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with the family present 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church. Dean was born Sept. 7, 1929, to Harry & Olga (Leffers) Baumgart, on a farm five miles south of Creston, Neb. He was baptized on Sept. 29, 1929 and confirmed on June 11, 1944 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Humphrey, Neb. Dean graduated from Humphrey High School in 1946. During high school and after graduating, he was a motion picture projectionist at the theater and did painting with his father. Dean served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950-1952 in active duty. On April 10, 1955, Dean married Darlene Beilke at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center, Neb. Dean started working for Nebraska Public Power System in 1952 in Omaha and was transferred to NPPD Control Center in Hastings in 1954. He retired as Computer Services Supervisory after 41 years. Dean was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; son, Daryl; and sisters & spouses, Donnalee & Marlin Wilken and Marlene & Jim Wyant.
Dean is survived by his sons & daughter-in-law, Dale Baumgart of Grand Island, Neb. and Douglas & Denise Baumgart of Hastings, Neb.; grandchildren & spouses, Phillip & Shay Baumgart and Nicole & Luke Goedert; 6 great-grandchildren; special friend, Sharon Sinsel; sister & spouse, Jean & Eugene Slizoski; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
