The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev.’s Cory Burma and Joel Ripke officiating. Interment was in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation was on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. There was a family prayer service on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.

Jean was born May 7, 1943, in Humphrey, Neb., to Harry “Speck” and Olga (Leffers) Baumgart. She was baptized on May 26, 1943, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Humphrey. Jean graduated from Humphrey High School in 1960 and began working as a dental assistant to Drs. Albers & Brisch. In 1961, Jean went to work at Dale Electronic in Columbus for ten years and at Westbrook Bowling Alley doing Keno for many years.

Jean was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Slizoski on Feb. 2, 1963. They made their home in Columbus and were blessed with four children. Jean loved children and did home daycare for many years and worked at Peace Lutheran’s First Steps Daycare for five years.

In her spare time, Jean volunteered at the Columbus Community Hospital as a Gray Lady for 11 years, loved bowling, which she did for over 48 years and

played Sheepshead and poker with her family. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Jean is survived by: Husband – Gene Slizoski of Columbus, Neb.; Daughter – Lori (Ron) Bender of Humphrey, Neb.; Son – Gary Slizoski of Columbus, Neb.; Daughter – Andrea (Rich) Bishop of Lincoln, Neb.; Grandchildren – Andrew Bruhn, Aaron Bruhn, Ashley (Eric) Tighe, Aiden Bishop, Tyler Bishop, Connor Bishop and Maddox Bishop; Great Grandchildren – Jaydin Kreikemeier, Elaina Tighe, Evan Tighe, Ariella Bruhn, and Nera Bruhn Jean was preceded in death by: Parents – Harry “Speck” and Olga Baumgart; Son – Russel Slizoski; Great Grandchildren – Laurel Tighe and Prudence Bruhn; Brother – Dean (Darlene) Baumgart; Sister – Donnalee (Marlin) Wilken; Sister – Marlene (James) Wyant Condolences may be sent to www.gasshaney.com
