Dr. Robert 'Bob' Henry Sueper

Dr. Robert “Bob” Henry Sueper went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on July 10, 2023. He had just turned 90 in May, and lived an extraordinary, rich, and full life.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Friday, July 14, at 10 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska, and Father Stanley Schmitt celebrated the Mass. Interment was in the parish cemetery with military honors. Visitation was on Thursday from 5-7 np.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service, both at the church. Visitation continued Friday from 9 a.m. until service time, also at the church. The funeral service was broadcast live on Gass Haney Facebook Page.

Bob was the fourth of 13 children born to Albert F. and Coletta A. (Ball) Sueper on May 22, 1933, in Platte County, Nebraska (near St. Bernard).

Bob attended St. Bernard Catholic School until the eighth grade. He loved everything about growing up on a farm, but unfortunately his allergies would never allow him to be a farmer. He entered Maur Hill – Mount Academy in Atchison, KS, as a freshman, and graduated high school there in 1946.

Bob graduated from Creighton University in 1950, and graduated from Creighton University’s School of Medicine, Omaha, Neb., in 1954. He interned at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln, Neb. Following his medical internship he spent four years of specialty training in pathology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. In October 1964 he was certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

In 1964 Bob enlisted as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy to proudly serve his country for two years of active duty. Lieutenant R. H. Sueper, MD, was assigned to the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Bob appreciated all who serve and have served in the US Armed forces. He was deeply patriotic.

Bob loved the study of pathology, and practiced in Seattle, Wash., and St. Louis, Mo., until he retired several years ago and moved to Omaha to be closer to family. He was an extremely humble man and would never tell you he was in charge of the largest pathology laboratories in the nation. He postponed his well-deserved retirement several times at his employer’s request. He was a difficult doctor to replace in pathology, and he is an irreplaceable man to replace in our hearts and family.

Bob had a deep and abiding faith in God. He loved his family so much – family was everything to him. He was an interesting and amazing man, yet so very humble. He possessed great intellect, humor, humility, honor, integrity, grace and was exceedingly generous on many fronts. He never forgot where he came from and those who helped him along his journey of life.

Bob leaves behind a beautiful legacy in the lives of all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Coletta Sueper; a special aunt, Clara Sueper; brothers Ferdinand, Mark and Paul Sueper; and sisters Marilyn Snodgrass and Monica Frisch.

He is survived by sisters Wilma Abler, Elizabeth (Robert) Huber, Romaine Lubischer and Alberta Sueper, all of Omaha, Neb.; Rose (Mark) Fuchs of Grand Forks, N.D.; Julie Boettcher of Cincinnati, Ohio; Karen (Sam) Becker of Branchburg, N.J.; sisters-in-law Betty Sueper of Humphrey, Neb., and Evelyn Sueper of Ord, Neb.; along with many nieces, nephews, dear friends and respected colleagues. He traveled extensively the world over, and also leaves behind a well-worn and full passport.
