Gerald Zuerlein

Gerald Zuerlein, age 89, of Columbus, Neb., died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Columbus Care & Rehabilitation Center. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 3921 20th St., Columbus, Neb. Vigil is 7 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017, St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, St. Isidore Catholic Church. Visitation will continue Friday morning 9:30 a.m. until service time at church. Interment is in St. Francis Cemetery, at Humphrey, Neb. Gerald was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Humphrey, Neb., to Damian and Mary (Sueper) Zuerlein. He grew up in Humphrey where he graduated from St. Francis High School. He worked with his father as a mason. On July 26, 1949, Gerald married Helen Mae Goeckel. He worked for over 30 years at Sand Implement and Beller & Backes as a mechanic. Gerald married Loretta Heine on July 24, 1982. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Holy Name, Secular Franciscans and served as an EMHE. Gerald is survived by: Wife: Loretta Zuerlein of South Sioux City, Neb. Daughter: Phyllis (Duane) Vavra of Columbus, Neb. Daughter: Karen (Kenneth) Anderson of North Platte, Neb. Son: Richard Zuerlein of Columbus, Neb. Daughter: Joan Rathjen-Davis of Columbus, Neb. Daughter: Mary (Ray) Hemmer of Humphrey, Neb.
