Jane M. Hastreiter John

Jane M. Hastreiter John, 68, was called to eternal rest on Oct. 15, 2023, surrounded by family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023; at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father Scott Harter will be the Celebrant. The family will receive friends on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Church. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. A luncheon will be held at Gorak Hall following the Mass. A private family inurnment will be held in Humphrey, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Valley County Historical Society, VFW Auxiliary 7029, or to the family for future designation. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements (www. ordmemorialchapel.com).

Jane was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on January 7, 1955, to Eugene Hastreiter and Leona (Eisenmenger) Hastreiter. Jane was the second of seven children. Jane graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School in 1973.

In 1975, Jane moved to Ord where she was blessed with four children and five grandchildren. Her son’s family, Matthew, Jessica and Abian John of Ord; her daughter’s family, Jacquelyn, Kevin, Damian (friend Makena) and June Krason of Lincoln; her daughter’s family, Jayme John, Matthew Winder, Ashton John and Reagan Winder of Lincoln; her daughter’s family, Jessica and Roper Scoville of Axtell.

Jane built a life and career centered on serving others at Calamity Jane’s Diner and Calamity

Jane’s Steakhouse in Ord while simultaneously teaching her children the value of work and serving others. Jane never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile.

Jane was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Pheasants Forever and VFW Auxiliary, and Valley County Historical Society.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Leona Hastreiter; brothers, Terry (Patricia) Hastreiter, David (Janice) Hastreiter; sisters, Mary (Rod) Griess, Cindy Esparza, and Kathy (Jim Davidson) Ramm; and leaves behind multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Hastreiter; and her brother, Thomas Hastreiter.
