Marie Dorothy Krings, daughter of Frank and Mary (Shotkoski) Torczon was born on July 14, 1926, at her childhood home in rural Tarnov. She was one of eight children, brothers Eddie, Alex, Don and Dave and sisters Edomina, Betty and Norma. She attended first grade in Krakow, NE where she lived one year with her grandparents and then attended second through eighth grade at rural District 60 near St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Marie was united in marriage to Emil Krings on Nov. 27, 1945 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. They lived and farmed southwest of Tarnov until 1999 when they retired to Humphrey. They grew up as neighbors and began dating in their early teens. Neither one dated anyone else. They were married 67 years before Emil passed away in 2013, and they raised five children, JoAnn, Darlene, Richard, John and Julie. Marie was the glue that held the family together following Emil’s death.

Marie was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she was involved in Altar Society. After the closing of St. Anthony’s, she became a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Tarnov. She had a wonderful sense of humor that she acquired from her Dad, and she loved jokes and funny greeting cards. She was a great encourager, full of love and always willing to extend grace to others. She enjoyed life and was always ready for a card game or trip to the casino. She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress, and she made the best fried chicken. Having grown up during the depression, she saved and reused every container that was brought into the house. When you opened the refrigerator and grabbed a container, you never knew if you were getting Cool Whip, butter or leftover goulash! Through her example and teaching, her kids learned many skills such as canning, baking, cooking, and butchering chickens. She loved being a housewife, mother and grandmother and was happiest when she was taking care of her family. Her kids described her as the perfect mom! As she recently looked back on her life, she said she had no regrets.

Marie was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ her entire life. She renewed her commitment to Christ in late 2019 and accepted his gift of eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ as promised in Ephesians. She lived her life as a powerful example of unconditional love.
