William "Bill" H. Nienaber

William “Bill” H. Nienaber, 79, of Lindsay, Neb. passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, Neb.

A Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at Holy Family Church in Lindsay, Neb., and Father Stan Schmit officiated. Interment followed at Holy Family Cemetery, Lindsay, Neb., and Military Rites were conducted by the Rotherham American Legion Post #261 of Lindsay, Neb., and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www. levanderfuneralhome.com William “Bill” Henry Nienaber, son of Henry Joseph and Ruth B. (Haferland) Nienaber was born on June 4, 1944, in Lindsay, Neb. He attended Lindsay Holy Family until he went to serve in the U.S. Army. Bill served from June 25, 1963, until he was honorably discharged on June 24, 1965.

On July 8, 1967, he was united in marriage to Connie Lorane Scheffler at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Albion, Neb. The couple made their home in Lindsay, Neb., where they raised their two daughters Mitzi and Cindy. Bill worked for Lindsay Manufacturing for many years. He also owned and operated Connie’s Custom Upholstery with his wife.

Bill was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He loved his community and giving back. He helped with the Plant Project for the school, was a volunteer firefighter and EMT and was the fire chief for 13 years. He enjoyed camping fishing, playing cards, helping during harvest time on the farm, and going on walks with his dog Snickers. He will be remembered for his big smile, tinkering, and helping others. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years Connie Nienaber of Lindsay, NE; two daughters: Mitzi (Dan) Fisher of Albion, NE; Cindy (Paul) Klassen of Lindsay, NE; three grandsons: Derek Fisher of Lincoln, NE; Dylan (Mariah) Klassen of Humphrey, NE; Calvin (Laura) Klassen of Lindsay, NE; three granddaughters: Janae (Tyler) Kvasnicka of Lincoln, NE; Bailey (Kyle Wemhoff) and Eva Klassen both from Lindsay, NE; great-grandson: Ian Klassen; sister: Nancy Borer of Lindsay, NE; brothers: Bernie (Marrieta) Nienaber of Scottsdale, AZ; Les (Gloria) Nienaber of Monroe, NE; sisters-in-law: Cleo and Donna Nienaber both of Gretna, NE; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Ruth Nienaber; parents-in-law: Virgil and Lorane Scheffler; brothers: Don and Pat Nienaber; brother-inlaw: Don Borer.
