The York College

The York College Traveling Children’s Theater production of Jack in the Blue Ridge Mountains was presented on the stage at St. Francis March 22. This is a one-act play dramatized by R. Rex Stephenson and based on the American told stories from the Blue Ridge Mountains. The play is a compilation of four fast-paced, humorous stories that hold true to the oral traditions of the mountains. “Jack’s Mother’s Second Marriage,” “Jack and the Mean Old Man,” “Foolish Jack,” and “Soldier Jack.” This year marks the 25th anniversary of the York College traveling Children’s Theater and the 5th year the troupe has come to perform at St. Francis. Students in grades pre-K through 6 are invited to watch the show from both St. Francis and Humphrey Public School as well as Lindsay Holy Family and Little Saints Daycare. Sometimes a few of the junior high and high school classes sneak in to watch as well. Each year York College, under the direction of John Baker, provides an enjoyable opportunity for the students to experience a live performance on the stage and to interact with the performers in a short Q & A period after the show.
