The second grade class at Humphrey St. Francis

The second grade class at Humphrey St. Francis has started to use some flexible seating in the classroom. One half of the class is allowed to sit comfortably on the floor by desks that have been lowered and move around as they need to. The other half of the class are seated in chairs with desks at traditional heights. They rotate these seats with their classmates throughout the day so they have multiple opportunities to sit in various ways. This helps them with their concentration and focus. The second graders think it's a lot of fun. When asked about the experience with flexible seating, Alexis Sjuts said, I like sitting on the floor because I can move around more. However, Kinsley Larson was of the opinion that sitting on a chair at a desk is more comfortable. Andrew Stricklin said, “(It is) good. When pressed on why he likes it, Andrew said, “I don’t really know, but my favorite way to sit is in a chair.” Whether in a chair or on the floor, the ability to wiggle seemed to be a big positive for second grade as a whole.
