The annual Pillen Family Farms and DNA Genetics Thanksgiving coloring contest for the children and grandchildren of the Pillen team members was held in November. The winner was announced in early December.
St. Francis students were selected by music teacher Pam Goering to attend Sing Around Nebraska held in Central City Jan. 29. Sing Around Nebraska is an annual concert that HSF students attend every year. Students get selected by their music teacher, and this year Goering selected six students to attend: LeslieAnn Brandl, Ellie Morfeld, Grace Braun, Emily Preister, Claire Wegener and Izzy Tasa. She selected these students because they all had strong voices and were confident when they were singing. Prior to going, they rehearsed five songs for the day. Attendees spend the day practicing the songs with all students who were chosen to attend. They then present their work in a concert. Sing Around Nebraska has been taking place for over 30 years, and one year it will be for grades 4-6 and the next year it will be for grades 7-9. Courtesy photo
It’s a brisk winter morning. The sun begins to slowly peek over the top of the trees, casting hues of pink, orange and yellow on the freshly fallen snow. Dani Bayer, of Platte Center and a registered nurse with Columbus Community Hospital, soaks in each moment of nature’s beauty during her morning commute. Upon arriving at the hospital, she suits up in full personal protective equipment (PPE) and prepares to start her shift.
