It’s not like I didn’t think it could happen to me. With more than 214,000 dead in the United States, and that number climbing, I could certainly be one of those who contracted the coronavirus, and since I don’t have a spleen to bolster my immune system, I was at a greater risk.
To the citizens of Humphrey, as an elected city councilman, I was pleased to read Monica Veik’s letter to the editor last week. She brings up a lot of great points. I will try my best to answer her concerns and hope to show the city vision and leadership that has gone into making the decision to pursue a new municipal pool for our town.
You were supposed to be reading this column while my family and I were at Disneyland.
Humphrey is being asked to vote on an additional 1/2 cent sales tax to help pay for a new $3.1 million swimming pool. I am not against Humphrey having a pool, but do we really need to spend $3.1 million? It will take a lot of taxable sales to raise money to pay off this debt. The city has about $500,000 set aside to be used for the pool. They are hoping to get a grant, and then raise as much as possible by donations. If not a loan, we will be applied for to pay for this.
